Press Release Body: With a show of a good batting line up and fiery bowling attack, the Tigers of the Kolkata team won their first match with the Mumbai Champs in Panchkula, Chandigarh. Playing on a pitch which was shorn and highly unpredictable as to how the bowling will come out to be, the bowlers who stuck to the basics fared better in the match.
The Kolkata tigers went ahead with batting when they won the toss against the Champs as they have a very stable batting line up. With the openers Subhomoy Das and Lance Klusener, the match started with Van der Wath bringing in the bowling attack. The match proceeded with Tigers losing their wickets regularly, but in Twenty20 cricket, what matters is the runs that you score.
In the overs of Power play, that is in the first six overs the tigers had lost one wicket at the score of 43. They however kept the pace of runs going and scored a total of 146 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the 20 overs of the game.
Then to defend themselves, the champs stepped in to defend themselves with Subhojit Paul and Jayantha as openers. The early wicket of Jayantha on the third ball caused a slight stir but Patil, the next man in maintained a stable run up and scored a half century. Even in spite of this, the Champs were not able to win the match. The loss of 7 wickets in the last 5 overs was attributed as the reason for defeat.
With a score of 21 runs and 3 wickets to his credit, Andre Adams was awarded the Man of the Match. The modest bowler gave all credit to "things coming his way" and the Tigers captain thanked all bowlers for their great performance.
